This
is a good opening hole, requiring a well placed drive between the fairway
bunkers on the left and right. Often played into the prevailing
wind, the added difficulty of an Out of Bounds driving range down the right for
the first 300 yds of the hole make this something of a testing start to the
monthly medal !
A well
placed 2nd shot is required, avoiding another bunker on the right hand side to
leave you with a short iron shot into a well guarded green. 2 putts should
see you walk off with a well deserved par 5.

Although
a fairly low Stroke Index hole off the Men's tees, this hole should present few
problems - apart from the driving range down the right hand side, which is out
of bounds, and the bunker on the left. The fairway slopes slightly to the
left, so the bunker is a fairly common resting place for tee shots on this hole.
The large tree on the left, just behind the Ladies' tee, has also been known to
claim the odd victim !
Dependent on length off the
tee, a fairly straightforward mid to long iron is required for your 2nd shot to
a large green, avoiding the two bunkers to the front left of the green, and the
hidden bunker to back right that is not very obvious from the fairway.

Stroke
Index 1 for the Men, and a par 5 for the Ladies. A tough hole that doesn't
yield many birdies. With the fairway sloping to the left, a well placed drive is
required up the right hand side - between the marker post and the left-most tree
in the distance (over the top of the 2 golfers on the horizon in the picture).
A drive level with the marker post will still leave a shot of 200 - 220 yards to
the green.
Again,
with the fairway sloping to the left, and a green side bunker on the left
waiting to gather up a stray shot, the best line in is down the right, allowing
the slope to gather the ball down towards the green. An over-hit shot to
the green will find your ball disappearing down a steep slope towards the 5th
fairway.
